In the beginning of the Obama administration, an incident occurred between a police officer X and a professor Y.
This caused Obama to call them both over for a beer at the white house

ReplyDeleteY-gates
ReplyDeleteX-sgt.Crowley
It came to be known as the Beer summit
X: Sergeant James Crowley
ReplyDeleteY: Henry Louis Gates Jr.
James Crowley arrested Henry Gates for disorderly conduct. This caused huge stir among the public, with ppl saying it was an act of racism. Obama also said it was a stupid thing on the part of James Crowley.
Later he called them over to the White House and sorted it out over beer. (The Beer Summit lol)
1) X - Sergeant James Crowley
ReplyDeletey - Henry Louis Gates Jr.
2) Gates, a Harvard professor, had gone out of town for research purposes. When he came back home, he found his door stuck. He tried to open it with a screwdriver. A random person saw that and notified the police of what he thought was breaking and entering. Crowley showed up at the spot and arrested Gates despite his proving that he was a legal resident of the house.
They decided that it was a matter of racial prejudice and with neither of the two backing down, it was blown to gigantic proportions until Obama stuck his foot in the middle. He supported Gates and then took and more neutral stance and played peacemaker with beer :P
