Question 601.b: Furmat's Last Theorem

One of the oldest corporation in the world, operating out of the continent of  North America,  ___X___ was at one point of time the largest landowner in North America.
As for what they deal in, this pic should give you amore than you bargained for.

Especially in this heat
__X__ enjoyed considerable political patronage and was given the same rights that the East India Company enjoyed in India, with control over the courts as well as the ability to issue their own currency in the 1800s.

A part of their charter under forming the __X__, the company was required to give two elk skins and two black beaver pelts to the English King, then Charles II, or his heirs, whenever the monarch visits an area that was formerly theirs to own.
This stopped when they relocated.

It is, however, a persistent urban legend that the company would lose its charter if it did not give the monarch the rent any time they visit Western Canada, and so, it is alleged, there are furs and blankets stored at a __X__ in each city, with the manager prepared to rush to the airport and present them to the monarch should their plane touch down, even to refuel.

So:

1) ID X.
2) ID their base of operations.

Question 602 a: HERtache!

Our second theme, the easier one, we hope! :)
ID X, Y, Z

When ___X____ landed the ______ received him warmly and ___Y____ came to his ship to greet him. Upon hearing his request, she agreed to let him take the ______. ___Z___, however, was not pleased, as was often the case with __X__. To stop him, ___Z____ came down to the Amazons disguised as one of their own and ran through the land, crying that ___X____ meant to kidnap their queen. Probably remembering all too well what Theseus had done, the Amazons charged toward the ship to save ___Y____. Fearing that ____Y____ had betrayed him, ____X_____ kissed her briefly then hastily killed her, ripped the ______ from her lifeless body, and set sail, narrowly escaping the raging warriors.
An alternate story of ___Y's___ death involved her sister. Her sister had killed __Y____ with a spear by accident when they were hunting deer; this accident caused  so much grief that she wished only to die, but, as a warrior and an Amazon, she had to do so honorably and in battle. She therefore was easily convinced to join in the Trojan War, fighting on the side of Troy's defenders, where she was killed by Achilles, who almost immediately afterward regretted doing so.

Question 600: Reckless Lyrics

__X__ was the songwriter who helped ___Y___ write the lyrics to what later became his most famous song. Until then, __X__ had already written several songs for Aerosmith, but working with __Y__ was what gave him a greater share of the limelight.

__Y__ was only a boy when the year being referred in the song came around. At the age of 9, he says that he really couldn't have lived through even a quarter of what he was implying. The song was actually about sex, and not about a nostalgic look back, like __X__ still continues to maintain.

__X__ and __Y__ still amicably disagree about what the song is about. __X__ maintains it was inspired by care songs from The Beatles and Bruce Springsteen, while __Y__ still chuckles at the fact that it became the UK's favourite song in a 2009 summer poll.

unrelated to the song, but still funny!

Give me X and Y for 3 points each, name of the song for 4.

Question 599: A Tax is the Best Form of Defense

Not as verbose or grandiose as one would come to expect about a question pertaining, but not restricted to __X__, just Connect the 2 pics and the audio file.

  • holds or juggles the ball
  • hurls the ball out of bounds
  • interferes with a player attempting to catch and hurl the ball.
