X WAS A SWISS INVENTOR. HE WAS INTERESTED IN BALLOONING, PRESSURE,ETC. HE ALONG WITH HIS SON INVENTED SOMETHING_______. THEY INVENTED ANOTHER IMPROVED VERSION OF THIS LATER(THE INTERNAL DESIGN FOR THE IMPROVED VERSION IS GIVEN IN Y). THE INVENTION WAS LATER SOLD TO THE US NAVY. WHO IS X? WHAT DID HE INVENT?

Don't mind, but that should not have been the question. Not that Piccard wasn't a notable scientist. Of course he was. But people don't remember him as much for his scientific contributions as for the character he inspired- Cuthbert Calculus! So the question should have been: "What did this well-known scientist inspire?"
