The ad-hoc clock starts now.

Good evening followers of The Quizzard.Or atleast the ones that aren't absconding due to the temporary departure of Nihar and Pai.
First off, thanks to Nihar and Pai for that very gracious introduction. I hadn't the faintest idea that I had any credentials up until today. Or maybe they were talking about the other two. Anyway, it's always fun to be included.
Now for you avid quizzers and/or jobless lads and lasses with differently shaped arses, if the questions don't suit your fancy right away, please bear with us. Let us know your opinions as and when you feel the need to express them. Don't worry, we'll put up those piss off polls as well.
Also, on the off chance that any question is repeated, I apologise in advance, because it's a bit bothersome to go through all the previous questions just to prevent overlapping. Plus time and inclination are both inadequate.
Hope you'll enjoy our tenure, until those two kick us out.
Let the games, for lack of a better category, begin :)

Question 514: I Say Illusion, You Say “Four” Sure

Many Wishes,

My name is Pranav, and I'm happy to help you spend your idle time on the computer NOT macking on manga and memes.
Actually, I kid - let's go right ahead. First post right up.

___X___ was the amongst the most famous of the Pre-Socratic scholars, having forwarded an entire school of thought that was touched upon in Plato’s most complex dialogue. __X__ was only trying to forward the traditional interpretation that the general perception of reality in the physical world (being discussed in doxa) is incorrect, and that the reality of the practical world is 'One Being' (being discussed in aletheia): an unchanging and indestructible whole.

But in the process, he came up with two of the most famous Greek logical constructs known today.
The first is that of a method of proof called reductio ad absurdum - which means reducing or extending the logical atomic parts of an argument to the point of absurdity.

The other construct (or a body of logical work - ___X’s  Y___) - it comprised of a body of 40 propositions put forward by __X__ to prove his belief in the illusion of the “Many” by questioning several conventional axioms. Only a few of these have survived, being discussed in great length by Aristotle as well. Lewis Carroll alludes to one of these when he mentions how the tortoise has a deductive argument with the loser (___Z___) at the end of the race, leading the loser into an infinite regression. By some chance, __X__ didn’t really like infinity, and Carroll was simply playing with words when he described __Z’s__ palpable displeasure with the tortoise’s version as well.

Z vs Tortoise - Time heels wounded pride

Name X
Tell me what X’s Y is (a collective term of reference)
Who/what is Z?
How does the title figure in this?
Guess 2 for 5 points, 3 for 8, 4 for 10 - it’d be a crime not to get all four if you get two!

Nihar and Pai have left the building, but not the premises

This is what we chose to call

A Transfer of Charge & The Faypril Shift
(You can guess who came up with which part, in fact, +5 for correctly guessing - Pai)

Dear one and all,

Firstly, we are absolutely delighted to announce that   Pranav Pai, Sebin Cheerotha and Nagaratna Patil have joined The Quizzard as authors for a period of roughly two months. Given their quality, we are undoubtedly lucky, and privileged, to have them posting on the blog.

Needless to say, their credentials are top notch, having countless quizzing honours against their names.
This page doesn't contain the space necessary to list out all of those, so we'll just stick to the brief description(Sorry fellas, hope you don't mind!)

Plenty to look forward to, during their little vigil. The variety and quality of questions, we're forced to admit, will very likely exceed what you see everyday.

But, be patient. Give them a little time to get completely acclimatized with the state of affairs. It'll be very, very soon, mind you! :)

Secondly,
Both Siddarth and I happen to be in our 12th standards, with those evil, gloom spreading trials, commonly known as exams, just around the corner.
And we must really admit that we aren't toppers in class(Proof that quizzers need not be nerds (ok, he's not, but im bloody close, from the bottom up,lol- Pai) ), and must really get down to crunching through books!

So, we'll post rather sporadically, as and when we get time.

Hey! Don't go celebrating just yet. We aren't totally gone. You will see the odd question from us.
But we'll be back with a bang, better equipped to torture all of you!!

This was a hard decision, but undoubtedly, a necessary one.
Luckily, we have the luxury of knowing that the blog is in expert hands, setting new standards to surpass, which will, again, be a major task for us when we come back!
[btw, Faypril= Feb+ April]
Thanks!

So once again, a Big Thank You to Pranav, Sebin and Nagaratna!
*Applause*
So guys, the Stage is yours!
*Applause*

Nihar and Pai [Exuent]
*Boooooo*
To return for the next Act!

Regards
Nihar and Pai

Well, Nihar has hogged it all, so i haven't much to say, except this small piece of advice to hold the dear authors in good stead.

The three little sentences that will get you throughthe blog
Number 1: Cover for me ____
Number 2: Oh, good idea,man
Number 3: It was like that when I got here.

Use them well.

That is all
Regards
Nihar and Pai.

Question 513: I have here a Pair, yes.

I'm trying to be as vague as possible.

Here is a cartoon,
showing some political leader. One of these two depicted in the cartoon, __X__, has something common with another statesman,__Y__, who openly criticized the U.S Government, and then later covered up for it by saying that the criticism was from a friend and admirer.

__Y___ had been prominent for nearly a decade. A staunch humanitarian.
During his time, _Y__ received a report against Ruud Lubbers, accusing him of sexual harassment, brought by the woman who felt threatened by the top official.
__Y___ did nothing about it, claiming that there wasn't enough legal evidence to prosecute Lubbers.
Lubbers was later tried and found guilty.
This decreased _Y's influence.

Between X and Y, there is something common.
In fact, the only two to have ever achieved this feat in the history of their office.
Id X and Y.
One of these two is X :)
Id X and Y.

What's common to X and Y?
What connects?

And how's the title?? B)

Or
Id X and the other guy with him in the pic.

Score-cese

Ok that was bad even my my non existent pun standards.

Theme Round Answers: Wonder how the Times will change

THEME CONNECT:

All the monuments are listed as 'The 7 wonders of India by Times of India" in a poll conducted by them.

Times of India's list of seven Wonders of India

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Various lists of the Wonders of the World have been compiled over the ages to catalogue the most spectacular man-made constructions and natural things in the world. But, for the first time the Times of India (TOI) News paper carried out a SMS poll, from 21 July to 31 July 2007, to vote for the seven greatest wonders of India, out of a list of 20 identified ancient or mediaeval sites for the purpose. The Seven Wonders of India (four of them are UNESCO World Heritage Sites) have now been chosen by the readers of Times of India (TOI) only. The winners range from a majestic monolith to places of worship, a mausoleum and a university.[1]
Except for the Golden Temple and the Taj Mahal, the Seven Wonders are all located in small towns or in the countryside. However, four of the twenty monuments listed for voting are located in three metros viz., Delhi's Lotus Temple and Qutab Minar, the Victoria Terminus at Bombay and the Howrah Bridge at Kolkatta.
The seven wonders of India, in the order of their voting are the following.
1. Gomateshwara - a place called Shravanabelagola in the Hassan district of Karnataka state
2. Harmandir Sahib (Golden temple) - located in the city of Amritsar in Punjab
3. Taj Mahal - located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh
4. Hampi located in a village in northern Karnataka
5. Konark Sun Temple - located a small town in the state of Orissa
6. Nalanda - an ancient university near Patna in Bihar
7. Khajuraho - a village in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh
Brief details are provided below, while individually more details are provided in linked wiki pages.
