Ha ha! That would be Teddy bear, spawned by a real life incident where Theodore Roosevelt refused to kill an already wounded bear. This cartoon was drawn to parody the event, and it was commercialized by Morris Michtom...

This is how Teddy Bear was born. Prez Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt was out on a shooting spree when he stumbled across a bar cub and refused to shoot it. This story got published in a newspaper and shortly, stuffed toy bears under the name "Teddy's Bear" were up for sale
